1. In 1991 my hanai uncle, a career intelligence officer, came to Hawaii to ostensibly to meet my newborn son (named for him sort of) and to catch up. He was in his 80's. It's a 10 hour flight from his home near Langley. While here he spent most the time talking about the Kurds.
2. My uncle was a WWII war hero: 82nd Airborne Pathfinder & cold war hero after it. Joined CIA's first class after he got his degree at @UMassAmherst on the GI bill in 1949. He told me a story about a night Mustafa Barzani an old friend showed up on his VA doorstep. It was odd.
