Welp, I officially ruined Christmas this year. I kind of flew off the handle after my uncle insisted Hastert never molested anyone; after I read him the court transcripts, he laughed + said it didn't matter - the victims were all lying, deranged liberals like me.

On hearing the judge got him to acknowledge he was a serial child molester, 'what's the definition of molesting anyway?' - implying it wasn't a legitimate offense.

I explained one such example to him.

Then he said it was irrelevant, because Statute of Limitations.

He seemed surprised to find that Illinois repealed its SOL for child sexual assault because of one of Hastert's victims advocacy for others.

I tried taking the high road, until he said, laughing, that dead boys can't talk.

His wife went to school with one of them.
30 years later, I knew another.

Some people don't get it - this isn't a partisan issue.

It's not. It's an issue of serial predators as having a position of power, especially over those who they've already hurt.

So, yeah. I told him to go fuck himself, and I left.

So, even though he inserted himself into a private conversation I was having with someone else, I ruined Christmas.

But enablers don't get a pass, no matter what day it is.

And, to be perfectly honest, I would do the exact same thing again.

Well, actually, I'd have eaten dessert first. I missed out on the rum cake.

But for those of you who find me to be partisan, this is the reason why.

Where I grew up, this was, and still is the GOP - pwning libs by gaslighting you, by denying a serial predator's own words.

There may have been good people in the party, but there is a line we'll cross soon that will separate conservatives with a conscience from the unrepentant deniers, willful enablers + apologists.

Be forewarned, you may have more of them near you - + nearer to you - than you know.

p.s. every survivor of Hastert's bad acts that I know is a registered Republican.

For now, at least. Nothing against conservatives, but the Republican party has become a full-fledged predatory criminal enterprise.
