There’s one thing that I can say about Twitter, there’s ALWAYS an opportunity for me to learn and to be challenged

I continue to grapple with the fact that ppl are complex and how to develop strategy that clearly defines where to draw my line

Here’s an example 1/

#causeascene
.@shaunking retweeted @Amy_Siskind, a white woman who caused harm Black women this year & has yet to face any impactful [that I’m aware of] consequences for her actions & I’m reminded of the current #GDIStrike & the harm @girldevelopit has caused in much the same way 2/
Seeing this, I found myself wondering if this is a one off

Is “the work” more important than the messenger

Can we really detach the “movement” from the “mover”

And, I keep coming back to NO 3/
It’s a mechanism of the status quo 2 give privileged individuals the benefit of the doubt on the bases of ignorance

But as any effective parent/teacher knows “ignorance” doesn’t absolve 1 of consequences particularly when 1 refuses 2 take responsibility, MAKE AMENDS & change 4/
I get, that as a Black woman, my instinct 2 those who harm us in private and public spaces is that they become my “enemy” until they’ve demonstrated consistent, non problematic behaviors & yet I also question the allegiance of those who “seem” to look pass the harm caused 5/
When will we stop giving problematic people MULTIPLE opportunities to continue harming the vulnerable in our communities

When will we demonstrate a collective understanding that prioritizing the needs and safety of the marginalized benefits us all 6/
