Let's start with a little pop quiz... Tell me why these headlines suck:

"My secret method for making money online"

"Why I had to learn copywriting..."

"The one thing that taught me how to make money"

What do you think?

Take a second and think about it before you scroll...
Answer: "My" "I" and "me"

Read these instead...

"The secret method you can learn to make money online"

"Why you need to learn copywriting..."

"Learn this one thing if you want to make money"

See how much more enticing those subject lines would be?

Here's why...
We are narcissistic human beings, we can't help it

It's built in our genes and it has been for a long, long time

An old copywriting saying says, "Don't tell me about your weedkiller, tell me about my crab grass!"
This is especially important when you are sending cold emails and DMs

The people you are cold messaging only care about themselves

They don't know you and don't care about you

Understand?

That's rule 1

Next...
Rule 2: Prove it

If I send a headline that reads:

"30 ways to make $1m in 1 day"

You'll say BULLSHIT

I've got to prove that headline immediately

Here's how...
"30 ways to make $1 in 1 day, as told by a billionaire from Texas"

Slightly more believable, right?

Joining proof to your headline is huge

"[Claim] by [Proof]" is a great formula to start with

Example: Learn to write copy today by reading this 12 page guide
Rule 3: Swipe headlines

If you think you can't swipe headlines from others and re-purpose them for your needs, you're in for a long struggle with copywriting

Copywriting is more about construction than creativity

Here are some recent headlines I like...
@TJRicks_TSP : Why KKKookies Baked with Racism Taste Better

Super weird and very edgy, he's got racism and KKK all in one headline, insta-click

Here's another...
@ECOMMANDY : How to Get 5k Twitter Followers in 2 Months

Notice the formula, "How to [claim]"

This is always a great formula... Andy could have done even better by adding a "by [insert proof]" after his claim

Want more? Ok...
Perry Marshall: Countdown to 2019: it's time to napalm your life

This is a creative use of wording to draw in people with an unusual word, "napalm"

It also does something most won't notice

Perry is qualifying his readers, they want help so they click

Very, very timely and relevant to our current corner of Twitter

This subject is very intriguing and makes people wonder how this guy could go against the grain and say NO to dropshipping
Take these headline lessons and start applying them to your emails, threads, and DMs today

Bonus tip: make a swipe file in your gmail, filter the best emails and subject lines for reference
