***Client Research Questionnaire***

If you're the type of person who sits down and "just writes," then you REALLY need to read this thread first

Answer these questions BEFORE you write a word

But, this isn't just for copywriters...
This thread is also for the dig. marketer trying to do any kind of market research

These questions are useful for numerous areas of business

Here's your list of questions to swipe and answer yourself or send them to your clients and have them answer...
1. Material to write about

-Product research
-Proof elements
-Promotional literature
-Current/past control pieces
-Anything the client thinks can help you sell their product
2. What's your offer?

The client must have a great offer, or else you may be stuck trying to help them figure it out

Always, always, figure this out before you sign a deal as a copywriter

-Good offer
-Better offer
-Best offer

Bonus: list out free "bonus" items you can include
3. Social proof

-Testimonials
-Celebrity proof
-Doctor proof
-Influencer proof
-Before/after pics
-Statistics (sales or results)

These all make up your writing artillery
4. Stories

-What interesting stories does your client have?
-What interesting stories exist about the product?
-Why is the product better than others?
-What stories are there about the company?

Also...
This is where you and your client should discuss the biggest benefits about the product

It's your job as a copywriter to write these in an influential way, but your client knows a lot more about the product than you currently do
5. Who is the target market?

-Example: 50 year old business owner with a minimum $3m net worth

-What is their biggest pain?
-What keeps them awake at night?
-What is their biggest hope and dream?
6. Competition

-Who are their top 5 competitors in the market
-What does each one do the best? (or better than your client)
-What are the most common misconceptions in the market?
Your assignment:

-Make a cheat sheet of these questions
-Customize them to fit your business
-Go over them with your next client
-Use them to QUALIFY your client (they may not be a fit for you in the end)
