1. If someone was elected promising "Hope and Change," but a corrupt status quo accepted him, then what hope was there for change?

None, and to think otherwise is self-delusion.

Real change comes at a cost to stability, and the status quo fights back. They don't roll over.
2. Now for the other side.

The election of one man to the presidency, a revolution does not make. If you were honest, wouldn't you admit that you are too easy on your party?

Everyone wants to blame an "other." But the corrupt status quo & its construct in D.C., are bipartisan.
3. Now for The New York Times, which I'm sure you figured out is the point of this thread.

Aside from their editor trashing them the other day for no longer being a news organization, if you consider them a reliable source of news, they you're a chump. An intel played, chump.
4. They, along with too many others, just print what their sources want you to think, whether it's true or not.

You can dislike and disagree with Trump, but don't be a chump.

The two aren't mutually exclusive.

Look at the wording. If the survey wording inc. terms like "wall" or "Trump" etc., it's bias tainted. We use the term "physical barrier."

A typical Q example:

"Thinking about immigration policy, do you support a physical barrier along the U.S. southern border with Mexico?"
To be fair, many pollsters tainted questions over healthcare, tainting the survey by calling it "ObamaCare." It carries a negative connotation, and evokes a knee-jerk partisan response.

"Do you oppose or support the Affordable Care Act, more commonly referred to as ObamaCare?"
Naturally, ObamaCare polled very poorly at that time. But ask the respondents about the actual policy, including support for protections against preexisting conditions, and those were always popular.

Just don't let pollsters and glorified poll-readers dupe you. They know better.

1. This isn't a negotiation. Nancy Pelosi is a weak speaker. She'll be the weakest we've had in a very long time, with no real bargaining power. Pelosi faces revolt if she compromises.

"Compromise" was the magic word when the GOP took over BOTH chambers. Now, not so much.
2. But back to the idea this is a negotiation. It is not and there is only one side willing to work out a compromise. Democrats told their base this wall & those who support it are racists.

Now, they have put themselves in a box. They'd rather have a broken promise a 2020 issue.

Have to be honest, the biggest lie tonight was told by Chuck Schumer. After all the hogwash. The lie was "we all support border security."

That's not true. Let's see if Glenn Kessler has the guts.
Second, if he wants to be as effective as he can be, Donald Trump should spend a lot more time in serious mode, like we saw tonight. Now to Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi...
Again, it always is very difficult to follow a president. But Schumer and Pelosi did not come across well, optically. They dismissed migrant human suffering and the deaths of Americans by calling it "manufactured."

They also appeared to concede the effectiveness of a border wall

that's actually a fascist talking point, and a pretty dangerous one.
the idea that all politicians are equal and that there's no distinction between them is a huge boon to fascists for 2 reasons.
1. erasing moral distinctions is important if you want to commit atrocities
2. fascists present themselves as alternative to corrupt status quo.
people think cynicism makes them smart or canny. It actually often makes them marks.

Here's a little thread. "Identity politics," both pro and cons, is largely a disagreement about the ideal level of inequality, and where we presently stand relative to rival ideals of inequality.
Call a trend in time toward less gender or racial inequality a "progressive trend." If we are in a progressive trend, you'll think the trend is good as long as you're ideal is more egalitarian than the status quo.
But there are disagreements among those who affirm a progressive trend. Some think we're almost there. Some think we have a long way to go. This creates stategic disputes about how hard we need to push, how big a priority the next increment of progress should be.

Thread: Thoughts on the World Scene on a Sunday Morning

1. When if ever will the US military learn the tactic of hit hard, brutally, leave a lasting impression, & get the hell home! Afghanistan has eaten up its foes since Alexander the Great and probably before recorded history.
2. Being there since 2001, accomplishing little if anything, is ridiculous. One massive strike and a strategic withdrawal, leaving the tribes nasty memories, staring at the skies wondering if lightning might strike again, was the only way to handle the illiterate Afghanis.
3. Although the U.S. initially got it right in Afghanistan, defeating the Taliban regime, we then got into the nation-building business in parallel with counterinsurgency.

A NATIONALIST/IDENTITARIAN MANIFESTO FOR A NEW WORLD ORDER

The existing world order is inherently unjust, inhumane & unsustainable, but everyone who is anyone in society, with any wealth, power or influence has a massive personal self-interest in preserving the status quo . .
. . . pretty much as it is. In fact, in a democracy like the UK, we ALL do, because the system is based patronage, with the government of our mercenary "patron state" striving to satisfy the demands of its countless clients, individual & corporate, & very unequal.
Consumer capitalism is premised on the misconceived idea that if everyone pursues their own self-interests this will ultimately serve the interest of society at large. It's a rationalisation of the status quo by society's wealthy & academic elites whom it serves very well.
