Former universities minister Sam Gyimah speaking about Brexit in central London: “Make no mistake, Britain is on the brink... We face the greatest constitutional and political crisis in peacetime. And the tragedy is we have done this to ourselves.”
People’s Vote supporter Gyimah says he didn’t want to resign as a minister but for MPs to continue enabling Brexit is a “dereliction of our duty as public servants”
Ex-Tory MP & party grandee Lord Patten of Barnes opens his speech with a studs up attack on Liam Fox. He says Fox’s recent remarks about anti-Brexit campaigners are “impertinent and offensive” and adds: “It’s a sad fact that disillusion and mendacity got us into this position.”
Lord Patten, who served as Tory party chairman in the early 90s, says an “organised no deal” is an “absurd” oxymoron given the “swaggering panache of our handling of a drone and the giving of a ferry contract”
Tory party unity going incredibly well. Party grandee Lord Patten:” I don’t think Boris would know a WTO term if it bashed him over the head.”
Just asked Gyimah whether he thinks Remain & reform is a realistic prospect (it was included in People’s Vote’s recent mega poll.) He says the UK should “look at concerns the public has” and mentions the free movement of people but stresses that most reform needed is domestic.
