@backofthebusgus Sex and gender are distinct concepts, but intrinsically related. Sex refers to what kinds of gametes you (will or could) produce: eggs or sperm. There are genetic, anatomical, physiological, and neurological expressions of female and male sex, in humans as in all animals.
@backofthebusgus In (non-human) animals, how your sex is expressed through behavior is called “sex roles”—what we call gender in humans. There are sex-switching fish (“sequential hermaphrodites”), for instance, that radically change their behavior after they switch sex. Gender follows sex.
@backofthebusgus In humans, sex and gender are less tightly coupled, but sex is still binary (with very rare intersex exceptions), and gender is still strongly bimodal (with a lot of room for expression outside of gender “norms,” especially in post-industrial societies).
@backofthebusgus Trans is real, and we should respect and have compassion for those who are trans. But ROGD seems to be a social/societal phenomenon, with dire consequences. And a few activist trans-women are causing many of the legitimate advances of feminism to erode (e.g. women’s sports).
@backofthebusgus A very few people, with capacity to do great harm, are claiming the mantle of trans in order to get perqs, & access, that they should not have. This serves nearly nobody, including actual trans people who are at greater risk as a result of the nastiness of a few powerful posers.
