To the question : how can we rebuild trust the probable answer is never. The need for trust is driven by the economics of rational ignorance. As information became more available the level of rational ignorance required decreased. We had too much trust and are now offloading.
We will always need some level of trust but at present the value of pure prestige is crashing.
Trump's style has gone further than predicted because it's not based on trust but transactional. It's cash on the barrel. You don't know who the hell the man is but the stuff he's promising happens frequently enough to keep you interested.
Where OAC may be wrong is assuming that intentions still beat facts. But people are now too cynical to believe in grand schemes. They want results and so long as the Donald produces he can defy the media.
