Moffitt is trying to cancel my MRI ahead of surgery because my insurance company won't approve it.

Breast cancer is so common and this MRI is essential to my surgeon to prepare for surgery. 1/
But my insurance company says an MRI doesn't meet the "imaging guidelines" of my clinical trial.

My surgery isn't part of my clinical trial, it is standard care.

Moffitt told me it doesn't matter and that my only option is to pay for the MRI out of pocket. 2/
Guess how much that MRI costs out of pocket?

I still don't know. I've been on hold for 15 minutes and now Moffitt is transferring me to a second business department, which will eventually give me an "estimate." 3/
This is the second medically necessary test my insurance company rejected. Both times my doctors intervened to explain to them why it was needed.

The first time, my doctors succeeded. The second time, they failed.
Update: I am literally getting sent BACK to the billing department for an estimate on how much my MRI would cost out of pocket. No one knows how much my MRI would cost out of pocket or they aren't authorized to tell me, apparently. 5/
I'm not kidding. The guy in financial clearance literally sent me to a fax number. I've now hung up with Moffitt and have NO IDEA how much my MRI would cost out of pocket.

So I just won't get an MRI before surgery. GREAT. 6/
More about my insurance company and prior authorization failures.

Once, I needed prior authorization for a drug to boost my immune system after chemotherapy. I got chemo on a Fri. and was supposed to inject myself with the drug on a Sat. 7/
Except my insurance company didn't approve the drug until the following WEDNESDAY, four days after I needed it.

And then they insisted on MAILING it to me instead of calling it in to my pharmacy. And then they forgot to do that for THREE WEEKS. 8/

End.
