I love Los Angeles whenever I visit, but the Los Angeles on TV shows about marriage/friendship looks like such a horrible nightmare (and not just because of the constant private pre-school interviews). Is there any show about Los Angeles that makes it look fun to live there?
Answers that work for me are hilariously all over the map: GLOW, Entourage, New Girl, 90210, Good Trouble, L Word. (A lot of shows other ppl think make LA look fun are the ones that make it look awful to me: YTW, Insecure, Better Things, Transparent, Nathan 4 You, Barry & Love.)
I love a lot of those shows, by the way—several of them are my favorite shows—they just have an interestingly off-putting vision of the city.

Watching Rebecca Traister talk at the NYPL about the women’s march—the largest one-day protest in US history—& how it was erased & laughed at in media afterward.
She’s talking about how excruciating the experience of MeToo was last fall—& how painful rage can be as well as liberating.

Then doing a hilarious riff about how interviewees wd say “I was angry, but now I’ve turned that into action!” and then 10 minutes later they’d be raging.
Correction: largest in human history.

The phrase "date rape" was new & divisive. It's not that guys didn't know it was wrong or that girls saw it as normal. But it was def viewed in a different light & the teen movies of the 80s document that fact to a disturbing degree.
(Although now I'm confused: it seems like that episode actually ran in 1988, which makes more sense... nytimes.com/1988/01/05/art….)
Okay, figured it out. According to Wiki, the original "Date Rape" episode ran Feb 21, 1983. The one O'Connor was writing about came later, in January, 1988, and it focused on Cagney herself getting assaulted. So they did two stories: an abstract debate and a personal one.

This is the end of a good thread on gun control, but it’s also an important point in itself. I was just thinking how amazing it is that women are so non-violent toward men as a group... Women certainly have motive. But it doesn’t happen. We turn the anger on ourselves instead.
And it’s not bc women are saints or non-violent, though we are certainly less violent... I mean, plenty of women are violent to children. But it’s notable that there’s simply no tradition at all of abstract misandrist shootings etc, while misogynist ones litter the landscape.
One side effect of this is that misogynist violence, and the maleness of mass killings, is made invisible, normal, not worth comment, just part of the landscape. Instead of saying “these shooters are all men,” people find other differences to distinguish them.

I release all things within me that no longer serve truth, love, life, or God in this place. I empty myself to be ready and available to receive the Love God wants to give me. I am not worthy of this love, but I receive it with abundant joy and gratitude anyway. Praise God.

TV is dead, the reason behind this? The internet. now I'm not saying this is a bad thing infact I think its the next step of our evolution! As soon as we git rid of TV!
but because of this, news is only really talking about the negative things, to get people riled up and keep watching that includes bad people on YouTube (such as the Paul brother) but it gets worse, news is moving to the internet and saying all these lies and such.
causing more people to get riled up, and people that don't understand YouTube (which is most people lets be honest) are attacking the platform, and ruining YouTubers that have it as there jobs! But in return, the news is becoming the thing they hate the most, YouTube.
