Earnest but feckless advisers like @brhodes wanted to do "something", "anything", but their choices only made matters worse.
Glass compared Obama admin staffers to "Kennedy’s “best and brightest”" who "gave the [US] the mass atrocity that was the Vietnam War". "Obama’s oversaw the devastation of Syria."
In Vietnam era (during which I was at university), there was a serious anti-war movement. Unlike today. Architects of dubious Vietnam invasion - McNamara, Westmoreland, Johnson - were condemned to infamy. Today advocates of Syrian intervention are lionized in Beltway and media.
