In his latest stress-test of the Republic, @realDonaldTrump’s is threatening to seize Constitutional power from Congress under the false pretense of a “national emergency”. This is a straight-ahead attack on our democracy.
He is enabled by @GOP toadies who apparently believe abusing Executive branch powers is laudable if done by provoking a humanitarian crisis, falsely calling it an invasion of brown people, and repeatedly lying about every aspect of the issue.
He even lied about the invention of the wheel.
And their preposterous remedy is a stupid wall stretching the length of our southern land border. The “solution” to the non-problem is nakedly an effort to rile up The Base ahead of the forthcoming Cohen testimony, numerous indictments, Mueller Report, etc.
Why @LindseyGrahamSC and @senatemajldr collude in his authoritarian taking of the power of the purse from Congress is perplexingly short-sighted. Maybe there is kompromat on Graham & McConnell. Or maybe they simply hate democracy as much as Trump.
McConnell won’t allow a vote that would force Trump to veto a bill to reopen the government. Whatever the reason he’s doing Trump this favor, it lays naked the fact that @POTUS is responsible for the shutdown. #TrumpShutdown.
And we are supposed to forget that @GOP controlled the House & Senate for the last two years and did nothing to build the stupid wall. Their gaslighting campaigns know no bounds.
They refused compromises by Democrats because they didn’t want to American kids full rights of citizenship because...they’re racists? Is there any other coherent explanation for denying Dreamers?
