Watching @mang0ld 's LOGAN again I am struck by the Zen-Western, elegiac poetry of its script and the spartan brutality of its action. It's that rare breed of film that enhances the mythology it closes. It betters the films that preceded it. One of the very best of its kind.
The way @mang0ld stages action is extremely intricate but he makes it all feel deceivingly raw- the craftsmanship in said staging - and its technical difficulty - goes by most viewers unnoticed -as it should be - but, without ever being vulgar and showy it is, however, superb.
I was also struck by how prescient it is. I would beg you to watch it NOW and not see frightening parallels with today's news.
When @mang0ld echoes SHANE, he is not doing so as a post-modern wink and nudge, he is taking a mantle and carrying it. The two gunslingers (DNA cloned) will face each other at the end, there will be chases, shootouts, ranchers, trains, desert vistas, horses and a final bullet...

10 personal musings about ROMA.

1) The opening shot suggests that earth (the shit-infested ground) and heaven (the plane) are irreconcilably far even if they are joined -momentarily- and revealed, by water (the reflection). All truths in ROMA are revealed by water.
2) These planes of existence, like the separation within classes in the household cannot be broached. The moments the family comes "closer" are fleeting... "She saved our lives" is promptly followed by "Can you make me a banana shake?"
3) In my view, Cleo's "silence" is used as a tool for her dramatic arch- that leads to her most intimate pain being revealed, by water - again- after the Ocean rescue: "I didn't want her to be born" Cleo surpasses and holds her emotions in silence until they finally pour out

2/2 SECRET PROJECT (UNTITLED), SUPERSTITIOUS, NIGHTMARE ALLEY, HAUNTED MANSION, THE HULK pilot, THE BURIED GIANT, THE COFFIN, DROOD, LIST OF 7 (Mark Frost) and a few others...
The thing is- each script takes about a year, so- more than a decade of work lost (in the case of mountains, much more, since we scoiuted and designed etc)

at the barre

i live life en pointe these days,
always poised for the next wave,
alert, with nostrils open,
sniffing for the swift salt tide incoming

how i cling to that bright barre
because i know i’ll need
its safety, its sure clamping
to the wall of what is real
if i let go i will be washed away
to those deep currents
from which there is no rescue,
my spirit willing but my arms too weak

The Troll’s Wife

I’ve lived, for what seems ages,
under a wooden bridge
with my constant husband.
He is a troll.
I have been enchanted, spellbound,
but no longer.
I brewed his tea with herbs of sleep
and found his magick book
and while he slept
unwove each charm
I let him bind around me.

I don’t know how this came to be,
this sorry state of wedlock.

No – that’s a lie.
I remember it well.
I was a stupid child
grown to a stupid woman,
a willing victim
never understanding there are those
who play with people:
out of ego, spite at life
or mere amusement.
I wandered blindly,
always ready to taste
the sweet but meeting only the sour.

not for me the cryptic tongues of men
who even as they yearn deny it readily,
not for me the pious tongues of saints
who even as they burn deny it steadily,
not for me the artful smile and arch uplifted brow
by which the maiden signifies that she is ready now,
no i will speak in forthright tones
that resonate from blood and bones
and tell you plainly to your face
with no attempt at girlish grace
i want you now and for all time
at matins, lauds, at tierce and prime
to take me, own me, every part,
impress yourself upon my heart,
and when no longer passion rages
love lives on in these bound pages.

Invoking Morpheus

The night, of late, is nothing but a blank;
no dreams are surfacing on break of day.
Is this phenomenon something to thank,
or has all inspiration gone astray?
I do not wish for nightmares to invade,
but strange it is that nothing I recall
of hours spent in Morpheus's glade,
as if beyond the purview of life's scrawl.
Oh shine a lantern, daemon god of dreams,
illuminate the secrets of the mind,
that better I will see beyond what streams
while wakeful, and there understanding find.

feasted, dedicated votive offerings, drove chariots in processions, and wove
clothing for cult images of the gods. HOWEVER-- 3/?
Spartan women weren't Athenian women. Spartan women grew up educated & trained in athletics. Spartan women were the marvel of the classical world, a bunch of tall blonde Amazons. So when Spartan women celebrated, it was w/a lot more racing & athletics & a lot less weaving. 4/?
