When I look at the strategy cycle and doctrine (i.e. the universally useful principles for organisation) then there is a wide variety between organisation ...
... for many many years, I have simply taken the known principles and interviewed companies or reviewed documentation to get a sense of this (it's also useful for competitor analysis) ...
... the vast majority of companies are pretty poor at this stuff, some of the worst examples exist in the financial world, some of the better examples exist in the tech world ...
... of course, it doesn't matter if your company sucks at doctrine, strategy, anticipation and even situational awareness as long as all your competitors do. No-one gains an advantage or suffers a disadvantage if everyone is hopeless. That's fine ...
... but what I'd like to know is what other industries are truly competitive i.e. where companies are good at basic principles and hopefully have moved onto strategy beyond gut feel, magic thinking and meme copying? Do DM / ping me if you think your industry is such an example.
Also, out of curiosity - a quick poll.
