If people don’t get that opposing a unilateral discriminatory penalty is not about the AMOUNT, their attachment to decency and principles is pretty flimsy. They might be the sort of people who lie in public, betray a friend for a scoop and resent the disabled. @IsabelOakeshott
I wonder if @isabeloakeshott would be quite so sanguine if a security guard rocked up to her at the cinema, ten minutes before the end of the film, and made her pay an additional tenner just for being English, because it was only a tenner and the film was good.

Illuminating mistake by @ChristianFraser. He suggests, if the EU refuse to renegotiate deal, they’ll show they’re “not an honest broker”. But they’re not “brokers”. They represent the remaining EU27. They’re not there to deliver unicorns just because the UK reeeeally wants them.
That’s been part of the problem all along. The view of the EU as “the adult in the room” who has to give the UK whatever it wants every time it threatens, like a toddler, to hold its breath. They’re not. They’re the opponent. We chose to make them the opponent. @ChristianFraser
It is time to stop treating the EU as the designated driver of our drunken night out and sober up.

This voice is not some extreme ERG Brexiter putting their case for hard Brexit forward. It is @BBCr4today presenting it as if it is the gospel truth, while interviewing the Irish Minister for Europe. Jon Humphrys’s outrageous editorialising is an embarrassment to @BBCNews. 1/2
The punchline: He suggests that if Ireland wants to respect its peace treaty obligations, *Ireland* should exit the EU; that it should subjugate to a foreign, dodgy, narrow, advisory referendum. And quotes figures in support, wrong by a factor of four. Shame on you @BBCNews. 2/2
I’m so tired of this @BBCr4today. This isn’t balance. This is about your anchor getting facts wrong. You used to be a flagship news programme. I could go down to my local and listen to some random uninformed pub bore’s monologues. Why is my license paying for this utter drivel?

Interesting @bbctbq debate on returning antiquities to their home. Many good points made, but amazed nobody drove home the clear distinction between objects made to be transportable and displayed like a painting and parts of a monument like the Parthenon marbles. @NickyAACampbell
That’s not to say there’s no case for returning important cultural artefacts anyway, but the debate “to whom do they belong”, is simply unsustainable when a country is refusing to return parts of a building with a definitive location. @NickyAACampbell
Some “expert” on it was saying: “Yes, but do those marbles belong to Greece? Is modern Greece the same as the ancient city state of Athens?” But that’s cynical sophistry. The point is they belong TO THE PARTHENON and that has an undeniable geographical location. @NickyAACampbell

I think it's so funny the moves made by my pd. It's clear as day, and the egregiousness, collusion, violating many rights, outburts in court, lies, gaslighting, and goading even, dude...I got all the emails. Video.
And what judge allows that? My fault somehow, right? Brady Rule, for my own stuff? MP clearly grandstander, put on an act, went way off kilter, lied, slammed papers, it was unhinged, down to misquoting case law.
Seriously, 1.5 yr old subpoenas too. And he allowed it all. This is a shitshow. The Brady Rule, you see that the key. I used it during an investigation that the PD not only knew about, took steps to collude with, knowingly acted against my best interests.

She's quoting @EssexCanning. On the surface he at least seems to have a sense that this view could be unpopular. That almost qualifies as a positive, but since he has no qualms about sharing a tweet by Guido Fawkes to make his point there of course really is no positive here. 2/

When I was arguing--correctly--that Buzzfeed was wrong that theirs was the first example of Trump ordering others to lie (I provided 4 other examples), I got tons of pushback.
After some reflection, I realized why: bc other outlets that had presented rock solid proof Trump had suborned perjury hadn't said what BuzzFeed said, straight out, Trump told people to lie. He did. There's abundant public evidence he did. But the news outlets didn't say that.
At least three of the stories that provided rock solid evidence that Trump suborned perjury were published by NYT. But NYT didn't say that.

Significantly, NYT got those stories thru access journalism. Access journalism that has LONG misled the public abt the investigation.

2. I'll start with the nicest thing you can say about white evangelicals, which is that 16% of them say they will never approve of Trump. That's a minority within a minority, and overall the demographic is defined by nativism.

2-a. I and I suspect most in the #Exvangelical community have never understood this 16% of white evangelicals. A word of caution--saying they will never approve of Trump doesn't mean they all won't vote GOP. But there are a few genuinely progressive white evangelicals out there.

Pretty sure the @PressSec's job is to tell the truth to the American people, not lie constantly, but I don't see you writing fucking articles about that.
What pisses me off about these articles is how transparently bullying they are. Sanders is arguably one of the most powerful people in the country right now, and has undeniably abused that power, so let’s pick on the small restaurant owner!
Opinion columnists know there’s no risk is hanging up on a small business owner. And also no actual important opinions being shared. Just more piling on a person who made a moral judgement.
