@TexasTribune Voter ID does not stop anyone from voting if their name is on the rolls (but, again, those thousands of people are not all non citizens). Non-citizens can legally obtain multiple forms of documentation states accept at the polls.

@TexasTribune A couple of years ago, Texas successfully prosecuted a legal non citizen who was put on the voter roll erroneously and proceeded to vote more than once using her drivers license as ID. She was a republican, fun fact.
@TexasTribune voter ID is not a panacea - the only form of fraud it can meaningfully stop is people pretending to be someone else at the polls. That is an exceedingly rare form of fraud, and even then poll workers are generally not allowed to question whether the ID you present looks like you.
