Today I have officially ended my involvement with @gdiphilly and @girldevelopit. I can not continue participate in an organization that is taking an "ignore it and eventually it'll go away" strategy to the racism crisis it is in right now. #GDIStrike
You can tell a lot about an organization's leadership by the way it addresses an issue when it happens and then again later when that issue is revealed to the public. GDI leadership failed on both counts.
They have had 2 months to deal with this. Excuses for the weak response was "holidays." These issues came to light in early December. If this happened on my watch I would have paused my life to do everything I could to fix it.
I had a glimmer of optimism at the virtual town hall they held a few weeks ago, but when only 2 board members showed up, neither on video or on strong connections, 1 of them late & doing everything they could to avoid addressing racism, it was clear to me this is not a priority.

We cannot continue with GDI, but the vibrant, supportive, diverse and talented community that has grown from it will go on.

Today for #TenThings, let's talk about TRADITIONAL PUBLISHING. What it is, what it isn't, how to know if that's really what you want. Because, honestly? It's not for everybody.
First of all, the usual disclaimer applies: YMMV, my way is not the only way, everyone's journey is different. This advice is intended for new writers. My opinions on traditional publishing are based on my experience from 2010 to today.
1. First, the bad news: Traditional publishing does not guarantee automatic success. You probably won't make millions or see your book on the big screen while sitting by The Rock or get sent on a 20-city international book tour. But it can be a sustaining and fulfilling career.

(2) I pray for direction, then do it. I was listening to a random mix on YT while painting - automated supposedly based on my likes (often wrong!). But it was spot on this time. Song is AMAZING, start in middle if short on time. Real music - it matters:
(3) When sharing here... do it as if no one is listening. What would we say, if we weren't worried about rejection? I don't mean rudeness. I mean real, meaningful, from the heart connection. If alone, sending one wish for humanity, not knowing if heard... what would it be?

Most important issue to grok? Time shifting. We need to shift the time energy is captured to when it is used. Multiple techniques like batteries and time zones (continent wide grid). (2/8)
1. Massive amounts of consistent sun & wind - far, far more each day than we can use. Forget the brown, polluting stuff - this is our biggest natural resource. LCOE of both ☀️&💨 is below coal today or will 100% be within a year or two (irrelevant the data set you choose) (3/8)

Today is #griefawarenessday. I think it’s important for those grieving to admit “I am hurting.” Too often they don’t because our loved ones' natural inclination is to “fix it.” Grief is not to be fixed. The grieving want to be seen, to be heard and acknowledged. That’s all.
Resist the urge to do anything that might come off as judgmental. Don’t suggest a “better” way to grieve. These include, but are not limited to “don’t cry,” “cheer up,” and “everything happens for a reason."
Don’t make it about you. Grief is a wholly singular experience. Talking about your own loss and pain is a good-hearted attempt to empathize. But it almost never helps. Your loss (or break-up, divorce, or whatever) is not my loss.

#Today's story to #EndFamilySeparation Four months ago, Dad and 4-month-old entered at the Texas/Mexico border and requested #asylum. Dad and child were immediately separated and the baby put in ORR custody. #FamiliesBelongTogether
Dad was detained in a #Texas detention center where @RAICESTEXAS consulted. Dad accepted a deportation to be quickly reunited w/ his infant child. However, the Dad was deported & NOT his child. The now 8-month-old baby has been in ORR custody for 4 months. #EndFamilySeparation
The Mom and Dad now have once weekly Skype calls with their 8-month-old baby. That's right, folks. They Skype with an infant. #EndFamilySeparation #FamiliesBelongTogether
