After seeing several photos my (English-speaking, non-deaf) friends have taken of their TV screens over the past week, I'm realizing that many of you watch TV with closed captions (or subtitles) on?! Is this a thing? And if so, why?
The reason I ask is that captions/subtitles are super distracting for me…it basically turns TV/movie viewing into reading a book. I pay so much attention to captions that I miss everything else. Makes appreciating the visual aspect of foreign films tough.
I’m so glad I asked about this…lots of interesting replies so far. I might try watching some shows w/ captions on, to see if I can adjust to it…
