Former mayor @RobertBiedron is today officially launching his new progressive political party at a convention in Warsaw with thousands reportedly in attendance.

Policies announced so far include ending reliance on coal, improved sex ed in schools and same-sex civil partnerships
Biedroń's promise to end the privileged status of the church, including stopping state funding for it and Catholic cathecism classes in school, has just drawn huge cheers from the crowd
He's promised not just to maintain the government's popular 500+ child-benefit policy but to expand it to ensure it helps all children.
This is very Polish: he's promised an end to rubber stamps. These are a symbol of Poland's bureaucratic rules and regulations. Instead, Biedroń says paperwork will be digitised.
He's promised an end to politicised public media #konwencjaBiedronia
He promises new rules on transparency of salaries in the public sector and tighter rules on business activity by officials.

This comes in the wake of controversy over enormous pay packets at the central bank and state firms, as well as evidence of Kaczyński's business dealings
Biedroń is showing himself to be a positive, charismatic speaker (though obviously having a very friendly audience helps). This is something quite rare among the current crop of political leaders in Poland #konwencjaBiedronia
At the end of the speech @RobertBiedron confirms that the name of his new party is #Wiosna, meaning 'Spring' #konwencjaBiedronia
There were big chants of 'Konstytucja' (Constitution) when Biedroń promised to bring before the State Tribunal public officials who have violated fundamental rights and freedoms enshrined in the constitution
Biedroń also promised the right to abortion up to the 12th week of pregnancy
The food at today's launch of @RobertBiedron's new party was reportedly all vegan.

Biedroń is himself a vegetarian and supporter of animal rights. During his time as mayor of Słupsk more veggie options were added to the menu in the canteen at city hall fakt.pl/wydarzenia/pol…
The deputy justice minister says 'we will defend Poland against the "fashions" from the West' presented today at the launch of @RobertBiedron's party, such as a 'brutal fight against the church, abortion on demand, avoiding traditional patriotism'
Asked about the cost of the policies he outlined today, Biedroń said that 'everything has been calculated' and the total will be 35bn złoty. He didn't give an indication of where the money will come from (according to the fragment TVN has published) tvn24.pl/wiadomosci-z-k…
