Heard the groundbreaking ceremony for the Ibadan Inland Dry Port will happen this week. Massive stuff for Oyo State, and also Apapa. The Port will be located at Olorisa-Oko, where the Lagos-Ibadan rail terminates.
It means cargo can move directly by train to the inland port for processing . Decongests Apapa, takes commercial activity to another part of the country, and probably reduces logistics costs.
Now the work is to ensure the project doesn’t suffer the same fate as Erumu. From this report, seems that stalled for two reasons - wrong concessionaire and lack of rail infrastructure. tribuneonlineng.com/119383/

In 1999, the gubernatorial election in Lagos was as one sided as ever. Bola Tinubu (AD): 841k. Dapo Sarumi (PDP): 184k. Nosiru Kekere Ekun (APP): 122k votes. Asiwaju won 19/20 LGAs.
By 2003, AD didn’t have it easy at all. The incumbent faced a strong opposition candidate, supported by Abuja who wanted Lagos at all cost. Asiwaju polled 911k to defeat Funsho Williams who got 740k.
In 2007, BRF got 828k, while Koro got 389k despite running a fractured campaign after edging our Hilda Williams for the PDP ticket. JK got 114k while Femi Pedro got 30k. Cakewalk

Thoughts on what is a sobering report on jobs coming up. Stay with me. I’ll start on twitter, might give you a blogpost for Christmas if at least 100 people promise to read it.
First, we need to control this population growth. A 5.4m million person (or 6%) increase in the Labour force is a problem, unless the economy is growing at 10% minimum.
Let’s get the real bad news out of the way. 32% of the 9.7m that spent the year doing nothing have been like that for at least 3 years. That’s a real concern. That’s where any social intervention programme should start.

Someone asked me what needs to be done to improve transportation using the waterways. Here’s my uninformed view.
First thing that needs to be done is channelization of more waterways to provide a route for boats. Lagos State has channelized 4 of 40 routes, needs to ramp up on this. guardian.ng/news/lagos-cha…
The work done on the Ijede you’re for example has greatly reduced the need for road transport. Ijede to Marina is a super popular route, for those who know.

This is how the death of Bola Ige was announced on some Radio stations.
What I posted is a translation, what was announced was in Yoruba:

“Eni ba mo agbe k’o sun’kun aro;
Eni ba mo aluko k’o sun’kun osun;
Eni ba mo lekeleke k’o sun’kun efun”.

The death of Bola Ige is undoubtedly the last ethnically tragic event that happened to the Yorubas.
Of all the politicians who lived after Awolowo, none was more colourful (perhaps even more than Awo himself) and none was as charismatic as Bola Ige.

Unfortunately for him, he also stirred deep envy from his friends and deep hatred from those who chose to be his enemies.

#Ibadan today was #PDPSouthWestRally and the mobilisation from the states of the SW was massive.

In order of size: my dearest Osun was number one. They were everywhere - seems the rivalry between Senator Ademola Adeleke and Akin Ogunbiyi is making them both work hard for Atiku.
Ogunbiyi brought in like ten campaign vehicles all branded for Atiku and filled with people. Demola Adeleke also brought huge numbers in buses and one particularly funny limousine branded in campaign colours.

Akogun Lere Oyewunmi was also massive everywhere, Peter Babalola too.
Osun took over #Ibadan as though it was their territory - I can comfortably predict that PDP will win Osun for Atiku massively and win at least two senatorial seats.

Even House of Assembly candidates like @faruqabbas mobilised down there for the #PDPSouthWestRally.

Politicking aside, serious work is still going on. Today is for #LagosIbadanRail. Tour should commence shortly.

It‘s a brand new 160km standard gauge rail line that will run from Iddo in Lagos, through Ogun State, to Ibadan in Oyo State. Construction in progress.
Last week was for #ItakpeWarriRail, this week is for #LagosIbadanRail. From the same people who brought you the blockbuster #AbujaMetro.
