Mueller's office says the activities of Manafort's associates Konstantin Kilimnik go "very much to the heart of what the Special Counsel's Office is investigating." They're looking at at 2016 meeting between the two, and say Kilimnik had a relationship with Russian intelligence. 
Mueller's office has focused on a 2016 meeting between Paul Manafort, then Trump's campaign chairman, and Konstantin Kilimnik, who the FBI concluded is tied to Russian intelligence.

Mueller's office said Rick Gates also attended the August 2016 meeting. They "took the precaution ... of leaving separately."

Mueller's office also says Paul Manafort was doing political work on behalf of a Ukrainian in 2018. He was either on house arrest or in jail for the entire year.
Mueller's office they think one of the reasons Manafort lied to them after first promising to cooperate could have been to "augment his chances for a pardon."
