Presidents often name campaign donors and close allies to administration posts, ... But never in modern history has a president awarded government posts to people who pay money to his own companies.

We started looking at the members of Trump's clubs in 2017. The rolls aren't public, so we gathered data from a website where golfers post their handicaps.

It was, as @DailyCaller said, a "convoluted KGB style back-door approach" to obtaining public information.
