THIS is scandalous: People in their 60s are getting their Social Security benefits garnished bc they can’t pay their student loans. Up 161% since 2010—44% in 2017‼️Instead of the latest manipulated spectacle & scandal, media could address critical issues most Americans care about
Case in point: @CNNSotu took Trump's racist framing of Elizabeth Warren which Liz Cheney repeated & added "laughingstock." @ewarren is taking on harmful GOP policies. MEDIA, PLEASE DON'T let Trump frame the debate AWAY from issues. He attacks to distract.
We could literally spend every waking moment on GOP hypocrisy. It's absurd that Liz Cheney condemns Elizabeth Warren but not Trump. But more harmful is CNN allowing Trump's racist barbs frame debate about Warren, whose policies seriously threaten Trump+GOP
That said, Liz Cheney's hypocrisy is truly stunning. She exploits Native Americans (her own constituents!) to attack Warren but ignores laughingstock AND racist mocking their genocide! Never forget that Hitler modeled Nazi genocide of Jews on America's genocide of Native peoples.

Demonizing the press is a regular part of every Trump rally. He leads angry anti-media chants to discredit their truth—while they're in the arena working silently. He whips up hate then pretends resulting violence is an unrelated "altercation." It's a Trump-induced tort, @BBCNews

Fact check: This isn’t “raiding” social security but allowing people to withdraw against what they’ve already paid! This dude keeps peddling blatant falsehoods because he wants people to sign up for his clickbait newsletter (which he pushes in the next tweet in his “thread”).
2. People pushing the “raiding” Social Security narrative forget that employers also make matching contributions to your Social Security benefits, so in a way employers will be paying for your family leave, if such legislation allowing you to withdraw against SS passes.
3. Rubio’s family leave plan may not be perfect but it can certainly be tweaked to increase the safety net so more money can flow into social security (perhaps by raising employer payroll caps), which could eliminate any delay in receiving SS benefits in future.

It’s common for loved ones to push us disableds to hide or “overcome” disability, esp for milestones. It’s not safe or healthy. He likely suffered doing this. His choice.

But why do ableds think standing is better? What are your tears for?
Years ago, an ex told their boss (w/ me present) “This is the woman I’m going to marry.” We were at his work on a date. I was too sick to dance. I was “lesser” for it. He controlled, isolated, abused me when I was too sick to pass, only loved me when I could. Common story.
There’s no context to the video @Trevornoah posted. The groom is an object. “He’s trying, how beautiful!” What about those who stayed in wheelchairs? Their unbroadcasted, non-viral weddings are beautiful. Is their trying or love lesser? Why is disabled suffering glorified?

Some points to consider about the Colorado teacher rally:

1) Teachers were required to take a day of personal leave to participate. For many teachers at the end of a school year, that means that it is an unpaid day of leave.

2) This was not an easy choice for us. I am nervous about students eating before a weekend. I do worry about breaking the routines of children in trauma. But I worry more about the repetitive inequities students face every day, esp. kids of color.
3) When you read about the increased funding for education from the Colorado government, you have to keep in mind the Colorado "budget stabilization factor." In short, 7.5 BILLION dollars has been withheld by the government from education spending in the past 10 years.
