individual human existence is like a river. small at first place, narrowly contained within its banks, and rushing passionately past rocks and over waterfalls...
then gradually the river grows wider, the banks recede, the waters flow more quietly, and in the end, without any visible break, they become merged in the sea, and painlessly lose their individual being.
those who, in old age, can see their life in this way, will not suffer from the fear of death, since the things they care for will continue.

some old people are oppressed by the fear of death. in young, there’s a justification for this feeling. young ,who have reason to fear that they’ll be killed in battle, may justifiably feel bitter in the thought that they were cheated of the best things that life has to offer...
but in an old man who has known human joys and sorrows, and has achieved whatever work it was in him to do, the fear of death is somewhat abject and ignoble...
the best way to overcome it (at least it seems to me) is to make your interests gradually wider and more impersonal, until bit by bit the walls of the ego recede, and your life becomes increasingly merged in the universal life.

❄Everything they do ritually is a tool for manifesting this energy, regardless of the specific goal. And more is always better than less...it is true that you get what you pay for, particularly when the currency is as valuable as human life. So they don't hold back.
❄It doesn't even matter if we believe that they're not capable of successfully achieving what they set out to do. It only matters that THEY believe it. In many ways, they are more faithful and devout than any human, because their belief and trust is absolute. Unquestioning.

THREAD: Here is my list of tips for all #LatterdaySaints in #TwitterStake for when you see arguments online of historical criticisms against the prophet Joseph Smith or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints:
1) Historical issues are, by nature, not new. They have been known, studied, and discussed by faithful scholars & historians for decades. Many books & other scholarly publications addressing these exact same issues were being written by faithful scholars well before the internet.
2) If your only knowledge of church history came from Sunday School, that's OK! Remember that church classes aren't history classes. The point of church classes is to teach the Gospel, and so church history stories are only included insomuch as they can teach a Gospel principle.

The latest numbers from the Trump administration on what's happening with families separated at the border:
- 1,442 families reunited as of yesterday a.m.
- 711 kids still not reunited with a parent

The passing of the judge's reunification deadline by no means ends this litigation. There are still hundreds of separated kids with parents who were deported, released, or otherwise deemed ineligible, and the govt will have to figure out what to do now buzzfeednews.com/article/zoetil…
The govt is supposed to be telling the ACLU why it determined certain parents ineligible for reunification, and the ACLU could contest that. There's also the unresolved Q of how long after reunification families can be deported buzzfeednews.com/article/zoetil…

My experience in grad school was actually kind of nice. The first year was horrible, because I was sorely underprepared. Turns out, reading a bunch of popular econ books about capitalism doesn't prepare you for grad school! But I had my best friend, Paige, and
our newborn, Miles, there. Plus we plugged into a great church where we were fortunate to make wonderful friends really quickly. I just felt like I was having to study all the time is all, particularly for the micro prelim where I studied six days a week, 8 hours a day,
for 5 weeks. But I was an outlier. I was in the bottom of my class in terms of preparation and brains, and had to kill myself to close the gap that first year. I learned more studying for that prelim than I probably learned the whole year. After that, things got better. I took
