Amber Rudd has admitted a link between rising food bank use & Universal Credit. In normal times this would be a huge deal. It still is for the people affected, but like all the other Tory messes of the last two years, Brexit will sweep it under the carpet. theguardian.com/society/2019/f…
After all, Brexit subsumes everything else...
I would not be surprised if we see a cascade of mea culpas from the Government in the next few weeks, stuff that would usually be a scandal. The Brexit iceberg looming 46 days away provides the perfect cover to get all their dirty laundry out of the way, and off the front pages.

There's something magic about Brexit and 10% (if we allow a bit of vigorous rounding...)
- 10% of the trade deals we need
- 10% of the haulage permits we need
- 10% of financial assets of the City moved to the EU27
- 10% fall in GDP after a no-deal Brexit
- 10% tariff on cars
Bear in mind that a 10% fall in GDP means a > 10% fall in the total tax take. As incomes and profits drop, HMRC's slice gets less and less. This translates to a return to austerity on steroids.
This effect is multiplied when it comes to the loss of well-paying jobs. Not only a loss of income tax, but an increase in the demands on the public purse in the form of benefits etc.

Interesting how much more blunt the latest publication is than the much longer one published on 13 September 2018. Looks like the Government is tired of beating around the bush.

The UK space sector was estimated at £13.7 billion turnover for 2014/2015 in the pathetically inadequate "sectoral analysis" cobbled together towards the beginning of the Brexit process. It also provides over 38,500 jobs.

The EU side have described Theresa May's attempts to negotiate with Brussels as a "photo op" and said that she's "pretending to negotiate". We kinda sorta knew that already, but it's one thing to "know" it and another to see it spelled out so baldly.

If you ignore the ludicrous "EU is punishing us" paranoia, this delay is great for the EU side of the negotiations. All it does is make our position weaker & weaker. No deal will hurt them, but their prep is already far more advanced than ours. Plus they're only losing 1 member.
They still have 27 countries in a market of 500 million people, and a stack of trade deals, including with Canada, Japan and Singapore. None of their laws will be changing. We will have trade deals with the Faroe Islands, Chile and Switzerland, plus an almighty legislative mess.

Thread. Most of the homeless people that I speak are homeless as a result of #UniversalCredit Credit and failed esa and pip assessments. This will continue untill universal credit is stopped and scrapped.
This won't change until the public vote out the @Conservatives in the next general election. If they win the next general election they will rush through all delayed universal credit plans
They don't care if they make a couple of million self employed people unemployed. Neither do they care if disabled people are forced into homelessness. They also don't care if children are separated from their families.

Just read that Gordon Brown column. Dear god it’s infuriating. A couple of things annoying me...
I know its a small thing, but his description that the ScotGov child poverty analysis was a "little known paper" is inferring, as much as I can guess from the tone of the piece, that its somehow secretive/hidden? It was published by the SG here: news.gov.scot/news/tackling-…
I remember at the time it getting pretty good media coverage (I presume because the SG sent it out to the press in a press release) because I thought “I’m glad that analysis got good coverage” – simply because it points out the HUGE task the SG faces in tackling child poverty.

There’s one positively enormous shoe that still hasn’t dropped in special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference with the 2016 campaign:

The operation was more wide-ranging than many remember. It wasn’t just emails stolen, either — posted material ranged from Democratic Party turnout data a GOP operative thought was “probably worth millions of dollars” to even a purported picture of Michelle Obama’s passport.
Trump associates tried to get involved w either Russian-provided dirt, hacked Dem emails, or WL at least 6x. We don’t yet know if they were successful — but Papadopoulos has already pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about the matter, and began cooperating with Mueller’s team.
