Brexit: You just don't BELIEVE hard enough! (Thread) 1/ 
2/ We often hear the argument made that the reason the UK hasn't made more progress in Brexit talks is because senior civil servants (e.g. Olly Robbins) and even Mrs May herself don't "believe in brexit" enough.
3/ presumably the idea behind this is that if those representing the UK had been more self-confident, blunt and uncompromising in talks, the EU would have simply caved in to all our demands and we would all be eating unicorn gateau by now.
4/ to use the parlance of the young; this is possibly the 'boomer' mentality at work. People of a certain age seem to think that if things aren't working out all you need to do is work a little harder and speak a little louder and everything will work out fine.
5/ yes, too much self doubt can be harmful in work, in relationships, in business and in exams - but a lack of introspection and self-analysis can be just as harmful.
6/ the fact is - Mrs May's entire game plan so far has been wrong. First she adopted Nick Timothy's redlines, then she initiated article 50 too soon without a national debate, then she let DEXEU be filled by easily swayed numpties influenced by continuity Vote Leave figures.
7/ armed only with half-thought out redlines, a ticking deadline and numpty ministers at DeXEU it's a wonder Mrs May has got this far.
8/ the arts of bluffing, bravado and bullshit might have served these men well for years but they won't help the UK now.
9/ let's have a 2 month article 50 extension, have a series of indicative votes and have a grown up debate in Parliament. Blind faith alone won't save us. /End
