“Everything was left on the battlefield,” Jeff Lichtman, one of Chapo’s lawyers.
Lichtman said he'd never had a case w/such "an avalanche" of evidence and so many cooperating witnesses. "We did all we could," he added. "It just wasn't enough."
That said, Lichtman noted that the defense team does plan an appeal. He said the team's cross-examinations were "overly restricted." He also mentioned the extradition process by which Chapo was brought to trial in Brooklyn might be an avenue for appeal.
Answering a question from the press, one of the other lawyers, Bill Purpura, said that Chapo had expected today's result was "prepared" for it. Purpura said Chapo was "strong."
"For or better," Lichtman added, "this is a guy who never gives up."
