A new bug found in Constantinople, again.

"A new bug in ethereum’s Constantinople upgrade has been found at the last minute, with it affecting a limited number of smart contracts that utilize self-destruct."

Jason Carver, a developer at the Ethereum Foundation (EF), says a new feature called Create2 can allow a developer to replace the self-destructed contract and thus change the rules.
This could be a quiet attempt at resurrecting the Parity funds, still locked in a contract due to the self-destruction of a library.

“If we implement State fee proposal 2 as it is, it will allow resurrection of Parity multisig library, I suspect,” - Alexey Akhunov
One thing is certain, ETH devs don't seem to be surprised or worried.

LOL Augur has a bet going, showing there's a 70% chance Constantinople will be delayed again.

A little economic comment on this mind-blowing hack with DNA.
I've always been uneasy about the price tag associated with these tests being so low. $50 US to sequence your DNA is uncorfartably cheap. They must be making money elsewhere.
As it turns out, they are. And this is the one we know about for sure, it's likely all are doing similar or worse things.

Comparing lightning network to a base layer consensus mechanism is ignorant.

Proof of stake has been debunked many times over. Quick thread.
Really simply, proof of work incurs real world cost in energy to root security and incentives, while PoS doesn't. 1/
2/ PoS is a perpetual motion machine.

Money is not a shared illusion. It's a shared observation. We observe a thing is scarce and secure as it withstands attacks and remains robust and unaltered.

Perpetual motion machines are *not* Byzantine Fault Tolerant btw.

2/ First things first - THIS IS AN EXPERIMENT. It probably won't work. Most attempts at solving coordination problems fail miserably. That said, *if* it does work, it could be one of the coolest things to happen on #Ethereum to date.

And if it fails we can always try again 🤓.
3/ We decided on Moloch—not a particularly family friendly name—because we find ourselves inspired by the rationalist text "Meditations on Moloch", in which Moloch is posed as the God of coordination failures. We must summon Moloch...to defeat Moloch.

1/ #Ethereum is crashing (not just in USD terms but in BTC terms); has the demand for a decentralized world computer disappeared, or is something else at play? Let's consider the fundamentals from an economic point of view.
2/ The price level of all monetary goods is determined by (and only by) reservation demand. More precisely, the duration that the average unit of the monetary good is held in reserve.
3/ At one extreme you have a good like gold that is stored in vaults in perpetuity because of a widely held belief that it will retain its value long into the future.

Gold has a very high reservation demand which is why it has a market cap of over seven trillion dollars.

1/ It seems like a lot of approaches to blockchain-based smart contracts, recognizing that "code is law" was unworkable, are going to the opposite extreme where smart contracts will be easily stoppable through administrator-type privileges, and claiming that this is necessary
2/ to ensure legal compliance. If that is true, then the benefits of deploying a smart contract to a public blockchain (vs. someone's server) are modest. By far the biggest benefit dreamed of by cypherpunks for blockchain-based smart contracts was always their potential
3/ to reduce both ex ante and ex post transaction costs by establishing an "unstoppable" arrangement on a world computer where (assuming good ex ante due diligence into the code), the parties had close to 100% certainty that the code would execute and the funds would flow.
