I am watching up close a generation of young people struggling with justifying the cost of going to University, and if they go, having to have *certainty* that they are doing the right thing, and if they don't go, having to find *certainty* before they jump. It's horrific.
The mental health aspect of it is one thing; the burden that society is placing on them another; the ridiculous pressure of career expectations and salary prospects another...

Society should be raising these young people up and showing them a bright future.
What we're actually doing is preparing them for the relentless pursuit of *enough* money to ensure that we have *enough* of a house... that's no life
All I want to do is tell them that it's not fair. That I never had that and neither should they.

I don't think Labour is going to win the next GE. I also don't think Corbyn is going to be beaten in any leadership election because the membership is firmly behind him.

Labour as a political force is toast
This causes a problem. The Conservatives are also split. They aren't really electable either. If they do win it's because of the inept Labour showing not because of their leadership. They are struggling to hold together too.
So where does this leave centrists?

The Lib Dems are nowhere. They've been punched in the face by the electorate over tuition fees multiple times now and I don't see that changing.

They are a spent force. They have no power.

I'm working to try to make the Data Centre and a cloud industry cleaner. Most people wouldn't know but it's as bad as aviation in terms of Greenhouse Gas Emissions.

Why is it that at every "big" conference, the speakers on panels are mostly "CXO of VeryBigCorp"?

I ask this because, as someone who has mostly avoided taking senior roles in VeryBigCorps (for reasons) it makes me feel like unless I go down that path, my voice is somehow "less"
I am not saying that these people aren't good. Many are.

What I am saying is that not having (or having had) a title at a VeryBigCorp does not mean your opinion has no value.

And if you want a good example of an area where this matters:

Scientists in the #ClimateChange world have long fought the lobbyists of VeryBigCorps for the oxygen of publicity.

Is it any wonder that in the world of business, where the *title* is everything, that we make sure that at conferences we have the best company titles on display?

People forget that the next generation of mama mbogas and boda boda people and taxi drivers and the whole of informal sector will be educated upto college/university level.

They'll be digital natives.

The early signs of this shift are evident now

Young graduates leaving school and straight into informal sector

Formal employees quitting 9-5 jobs to go into biashara

For example Met a lady who quit her job to sell bags from mitumba via social media. 2/
In the near future matatu touts will be educated, on the same platforms as everyone else (fb, whatsapp, mobile phone, mpesa, Instagram)

Nairobi's street hawkers will be educated too and on the same platforms as you and I

Yes....sharing a household for 20 plus years for the sake of children long grown up and moved away.

People have been asking why Shader Forge was never acquired and integrated by @unity3d, now that Shader Graph is finally out in the open. Here's a thread!
Unity did in fact start that conversation with me years ago. But we ended up not reaching a deal, not because they gave me a bad one, but because our goals simply weren't aligned
The deal was, in short, that Unity would acquire Shader Forge and hire me to work on an officially integrated shader editor. Which was a great deal, but a difficult decision for me to make at the time, because I ultimately want to create games, not tools
