1) Only white people have the luxury of “not seeing”, AKA, pretending to ignore, color. 2) The only way you cannot see color is if you’re blind. 3) Racism is not about noticing difference, it’s about the systemic deprivation of equal resources and justice that comes with it.
That people think they have to pretend not to see that we are black means they think it is a flaw that they are kind enough to look over. What is necessary is leadership that sees it, that acknowledges what that color has meant in terms of lost opportunities...
Lost lives, lost wealth, lost freedom, and decide to take that head on. Not someone to conveniently pretend race — the construct that it is — doesn’t exist and that if one simply refuses to “see” it, that all its harms simply go away.
