Come what may, never apologize for giving a Black person who says they've been brutalized the benefit of the doubt. The folks who want you to apologize for that are the very reason you should not.
In a culture of anti-Black violence, what would you rather be wrong about? If I'm wrong for believing someone who says they've been harmed, I can live with that. If I'm wrong in dismissing a Black person who says they've experienced violence, living with that would be a struggle.
And on the real, I will never apologize for doubting the police, or remaining skeptical of them every step of the way, bc I know police and I sure as shit know Chicago police. I live in frame-up central and I take nothing on faith. Is that a bias? Yes. Is it well earned? You bet.
Ftr, I will remain skeptical of them. I lose nothing by demanding they prove every word that comes out of their mouths. But what ppl in my city, esp Black folks, have lost bc folks believe the cops without a thought -- those losses are immeasurable.
Look up exonerations in Chicago, including the very recent ones. Our police are under a consent decree bc it is well established, both by community groups and the DOJ, that they are explicitly racist and horribly violent. If you have read the DOJ's report, you know that's true.
If you haven't read the DOJ report or We Charge Genocide's shadow report, and you disagree with me about the violence and racism of the Chicago police, STFU and stay out of my mentions. Bc you don't care about our communities, Black ppl or the truth. So fuck you.
I do not understand why so many folks are in a hurry to apologetically declare that they were wrong. Make the cops prove it to you, hard and fast & beyond a doubt. And if you are wrong, it's not like you've a committed a sin you must atone for. It's okay to believe Black people.
CW: graphic violence

Do you know what it took to get the city of Chicago to own up to the tortures perpetrated under just one police commander? How horrific & well documented the torture had to be? We're talking about genital electrocution & mock executions and more. That's CPD.
Btw, here's a timeline of what occurred under Chicago Police Commander Jon Burge: bit.ly/2GvsmA1

Be sure to note the events listed in this image.

Take nothing on faith.
The Chicago police wanted to dedicate a parade float to a cop who had been fired for torturing a man and implicated in MANY MORE tortures. They wanted to CELEBRATE him in front of the whole city. That's how pro-torture and pro-frame-up Chicago cops are.
I have a piece coming out on Tuesday that discusses just a fraction of the police violence that went on under Rahm Emanuel -- not just stuff that I believed, but things that the federal government found to be true. Read it and tell me you can take anything they say as the gospel.
