Sabine Weyand told EU ambassadors that decision to vote on Malthouse compromise - already rejected by Brussels umpteen times - showed that parliament was “divorced from reality”.
EU officials also seem astonished and disheartened that May has allowed a free vote on no-deal - negotiated so painfully with the EU. "Incredible" was the verdict of one source.
EU officials have now given up on short "technical" extension, although member states reserve right to be flexible. Germany especially does not want to close doors.

Brexit latest: Theresa May was ready to sign off a text with Jean-Claude Juncker on Sunday night, but was overruled by London, EU ambassadors were told earlier.
The PM was ready to agree to what Michel Barnier proposed on Friday on arbitration assurances, not the revised backstop, but was overruled by London. EU sources *think* this was Geoffrey Cox, but not certain.
Deal was off at 8.30 last night.
Senior EU sources said in amb meeting that if British MPs decided to vote for the impossible, then they would be choosing no-deal.
"If you vote for something that is not on the table... it would be a vote for no-deal," one EU diplomat tells me.

There are four words in the english language that in relation to brexit I want to stop fucking hearing

Respect
Honour
Referendum
Democracy
And there is a very simple reason I want to stop hearing them

Because they are hollow

Join me below as we follow the evolution of those who parrot those 4 words

Now I know this is difficult

But this requires several things

A respect for the rule of law

And a blind fold
So the leave campaign used a red bus.
The red bus was a lie.
A lie on many levels.
The number was a lie.
The promise was a lie.

Of course you get those who say “Let's fund the NHS instead” was actually a promise.

It was a suggestion, an implication.
