I often wonder if British politics as we knew it fell apart after the 2012 Health And Social Care Act.
The Act was a phenomenally shit idea. I said so in some detail at the time.
More than anyone else, I was outspoken and right about how and why it was a shit idea.
I don’t give a tuppenny fuck if that seems an immodest statement. A lot of people who should have or did know better minced their words or held their tongues.
So the entire Parliamentary Conservative Party and almost the entire Parliamentary Lib Dem Party together fucked up the most important bit of public policy of the time.
The striking thing about the 2012 Act is its consequences.
There aren’t any worthy of note.
Clinical commissioning, which was the entire fucking point, did not happen. At all.
The CamBorne Supremacy, which was such leadership as the Conservative And Unionist Party had in 2012, looked at what they had wrought and shat themselves.
And have not stopped shitting themselves about the NHS ever since.
They hired in Simon Sreevens to fix the mess, which he did.
By ignoring the living shit out of the 2012 Act. As I was the first to observe. healthpolicyinsight.com/?q=node/1577
It’s widely accepted now, but nobody else was saying it then.
You learn a lot, when you watch an obviously shit piece of legislation go through Parliament, become law and then be completely ignored.
If anybody thinks that clinical commissioning, patient choice and competition have made even a vestigial trace of a difference to the NHS these past seven years, I’d like an ounce of what they’re smoking.
This was legislation taken through committee by the great #LordChelmsford, #SimonBurns4SOS
The opposition included @EmilyThornberry @JamieFonzarelli and @leicesterliz
Parliament passed it (literally and metaphorically). It had a large majority.
And it didn’t happen. Bits of NHS bureaucracy changed their names, and were shut, or grew.
We reduced NHS bureaucracy by replacing 150 local finance-managing units with 217 local finance-managing units.
Not to mention creating the biggest NHS quango of all time.
And now, we have Matt Hancock.
Matt Hancock. The poor man’s Chris Grayling, with a PC World loyalty card.
For fuck’s sake.
Really. For fuck’s sake.
This is embarrassing.
