1989 DO THE RIGHT THING
1988 I’d want DANGEROUS LIAISONS but it’d likely be DIE HARD
1987 I may be wrong but I suspect this would go to THE PRINCESS BRIDE.
1986 — Hard to believe this wouldn’t go to BLUE VELVET
1985 — Tempted to say THE COLOR PURPLE or WITNESS but I’m going with LOST IN AMERICA.
1984 — is it possible this might stay with AMADEUS?
1983 — Tempting to go with STRANGE BREW (the Academy loves Shakespeare) but I will suggest it would be THE RIGHT STUFF.
1982 — Sci-fi showdown with THE THING getting edged by BLADE RUNNER.
Or 1982 — E.T. THE EXTRA TERRESTRIAL.

Man. I don’t know.
1981 — RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK. Wouldn’t be my choice, but come on. Obviously.
1980 — RAGING BULL. Never in doubt.
1990 — GOODFELLAS. What, you were expecting maybe GHOST?
1991 — THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS keeps it.
1992 — UNFORGIVEN keeps it.
1993 — SCHINDLER’S LIST keeps it.

Hell of a run, early 90s.
1994 — It’s the movie that says bad motherfucker on it. PULP FICTION.
1995 — There are a LOT of choices but it’s hard to deny the artistry + impact of TOY STORY.
1996 — FARGO, oh jeez.
1997 —A lot of movies I’d rather see here (HENRY FOOL for your consideration) but I bet even 21 years later TITANIC would keep it.
1998 — I vastly prefer THE THIN RED LINE, but I reckon SAVING PRIVATE RYAN takes the 20 year retrospective.
1979 — I would fyc LIFE OF BRIAN OR BEING THERE, but my guess is ALIEN comes up just shy against APOCALYPSE NOW (my least favorite of the 4 listed here).
1978 — THE DEERHUNTER is well-admired and might hold on, but my guess is DAYS OF HEAVEN ascends.
