Sí, si es SEVERA (tienes que calcular la severidad con el CURB-65 o el Pneumonia Severity Index, ambas disponibles en la app QX calculate).

Hay 2 regímenes:

Prednisona 50 mgs (sí, 50) VO cada 24 hrs por 7 días...
O metilprednisolona 0.5 mgs. por Kg. IV cada 12 horas X 5 días.

Beneficios: menos estancia intrahospitalaria, más rápida estabilidad, menos probabilidad de ser intubado y menos síndrome de dificultad respiratoria del adulto.
Al ser severa, los pacientes ambulatorios NO son candidatos (se tienen que quedar sí o sí).

Los intubados o los que estén en choque séptico califican de manera INMEDIATA al uso de esteroides sistémicos.

Recuerda: diagnostica, CLASIFICA y prescribe esteroides...
Los antibióticos son obligatorios, pero son pocos médicos los que van más allá...
