Fraser Institute recommends healthcare policy in AB.

Since UCP hasn’t released a clear platform, this is the best way to approximate what Kenney’s plans may be.

Let’s look at their 7 suggestions for improved AB healthcare.

What could be better than market forces shaping healthcare decisions? Who wouldn’t want competition for public dollars. Surely the private pilfering of public funds won’t adversely affect public health care centres whose operating costs won’t diminish, but available funds will.
Forcing hospitals to do more with less funding surely won’t affect quality of care, burn out of staff or health outcomes.

It’s not like the countries whose models of care are highlighted have much higher tax revenue to work with, meaning they are funded appropriately.
Fraser Institute touts Saskatchewan as superior healthcare. Using Canadian Institute for Health Information data, let’s compare Alberta & Saskatchewan in the next tweet.
Taking a quick overview, there is room for improvement in Alberta, but overall, even amidst an economic crisis, Albertans experience better outcomes. As well, Albertans perceive their health is better than people who live in Saskatchewan.
This sounds like the two tiered healthcare Miranda Rosin was promoting in a private meeting with UCP voters. But Fraser calls it parallel system, not two tier. Those who can afford it pay handsomely. Everybody else gets the public version. Sorry poor people, sucks to be you.
Exactly the opposite that is described would be the result of this suggestion. A dual practice doctor could work a day a month in public setting to maximize earnings. Leaving every public system under staffed, and increasing wait times exponentially, unless you can pay of course.
A suggestion to narrow the definition of “medically necessary” public services. A clear dog whistle for pro-lifers to defund abortion as medically unnecessary, this would also restrict some medical services availability to only private healthcare systems. Hip & knee surgery?
Recommendation to abandon the Canada Healthcare Act to allow for cost sharing. We wouldn’t want people using healthcare when they need it. By implementing cost sharing, patients may have to choose between care and rent. That surely will bring the costs down for taxpayers.
You can see clearly that a two tiered healthcare system is clearly the plan Fraser Institute is recommending. A private option with immediate access available for those who can pay, and a gutted underfunded public system for the rest.
Kenney and many other UCP candidates are accusing NDP and other critics of fear mongering.

It’s not fear mongering if the threat to public healthcare is real!

So Pat Rehn is blatantly lying by labeling valid concerns as fear mongering. Not surprised!

For reference, here is a thread from US. The US is much further along in the NAR Dominionist Christian Libertarian agenda. They never had universal health care, but check out the statistics in this thread.

This is our future under UCP privatized healthcare. Even with health insurance.

They really consider profits before people.
