A random little thing I like from work: there is a person who I think is a talented amateur photographer who takes the traditional badge photo for everyone, and unlike most badge photos they make most people look good, so much so that a lot of folks use them for Twitter/LinkedIn.
The other brilliant thing is that the company directory has links to high-resolution black and white or color versions of that photo for everyone, so that if you are getting someone to speak at a conference and they need a headshot, bam, a great one is where they always are.
(It will probably not surprise anyone to learn my badge photo has me wearing a red jacket, which might mean I’m very bad at branding or very good at branding depending on your point of view.)

Hard endorse, and note that this logic basically applies to platforms which are not normally considered social media.
For professional / business purposes, you want a domain and you probably want an email list, both proprietary to you.

If you accept platforms' bargain (approximately: "We'll give you an amount of distribution we feel appropriate and charge an amount we feel appropriate"), well.
I also think that one's work appearing in platform settings does not show it to best advantage for professional purposes, and I'm looking at Github specifically when I say that. The brand value of most code posted to Github accrues to Github, not to the person who wrote the code.

Tether has an update, filed under Who Could Possibly Have Seen This Coming.
"What's that mean?"

Previously, they pretended that every USD-denominated tether was 1:1 backed by a deposit in a bank account in USD. At some point they abandoned that model and began backing tethers with cryptocurrencies. Being leveraged in a downmarket has the usual effects.
Now Tether claims to be solvent, if you allow them to pick the marks for receivables from related entities.

Which: yeah, that is not how this works.

So I’m here to tell you that if you haven’t, it’s not too late. Stop listening to whatever everyone else says is the timeline. Your time is your time. The key is hanging in there long enough to see it.
I’m frustrated because so MANY of us get caught up by unforeseen things in life. Shot we couldn’t have (and subsequently didn’t) plan for. Things can throw you off by a year or ten.
I guess the reality is that you look up one day and a bunch of time has passed and you think it’s too late.

The backbone of the mobile network is the Signal Transfer Point (STP for GPRS and 3G) or the Diameter Routing Agent (DRA for LTE, which was a jump from the older technologies). But let's see where this started and how we have the current scenario 👇

Everyone I know who's shoplifted has been beneath the working class. Disabled folks, chronically ill folks, folks pushing through addiction etc. If you think you're coming across someone you feel is probably rich, please take down your stereotypes. I'm going to make a thread tbh!
There are people I (used to as of today) follow who are in the comments saying,

"I work at a bookshop/books aren't necessary," - not everyone has internet access actually and you need an address to get a library card!
"Makeup isn't necessary/clothes aren't necessary/etc"

Makeup is pushed on women (especially trans women) in order to get access to jobs and other necessities. They are seen as less respectable, less *women* if they don't wear it.

This is patently false & only something who is comfortable would have the gall to say.

Wages are NOT a "back burner" issue.

If these people ever left their enclaves and talked to everyday people around the country, they'd know.

Over the past couple months, I traveled the country interviewing people for a series of short films on labor in America.

I interviewed random people—complete strangers—about their work lives.

EVERY. SINGLE. PERSON. said wages are too low and it scares them.

EVERY ONE!
And these people cut across all swaths and I interviewed dozens of people all over the country.

Urban. Rural. Rust Belt. Big city.

White collar. Blue Collar. Business owner. Unemployed.

So either I somehow ONLY found people who felt this way, or it's a common issue.

Got my makeup professionally done for a public facing work thing and I’ve got to do this more often! I think after a certain point the money is well worth it for PR— for events like anything filmed, photos, public speaking, etc.

People who are very public facing usually have fashion consultants help them too— including all those execs that look like they just threw on a t-shirt, subtle cues make a difference. Things I’m learning.

I once had to sit through racial bias training in reponse to a racist white dude doing racist white dude things.

The session was dominated by other white men who used it to bring up grievances against POC. What I was expecting to be a 2 hours of both-sideism and coddling white..
...feelings ended up being actively hostile to the two POC in the room. It felt like an insidious trap.

1 hour of serious discussion about 'reverse racism' that should have been nixed right away. White men who didn't understand why they couldn't 'speak their mind'.
They preached about resilience as if racism was an environmental factor, beyond the control of the people in the room.

The conclusion was that the participants in the room had to become 'educators' - even the ones expressing openly white supremacist views.
