@sarahmquinlan @JVLast I read the article by JV Last. I believe he wrote it in good faith. However he omits key components of the controversy. The tweet by Bill Kristol referring to "snowflakes", the tweets by Sykes and Brandt that dismissed critics as hypocritical MAGAts. (1/+)
@sarahmquinlan @JVLast Or the tweets by Tom Nichols, especially the ones directed at Alexandra DeSactis, that DID IMHO, question her sincerity and integrity, that of the overall pro-life movement & of anyone who attended CPAC. (2/+)
@sarahmquinlan @JVLast I think such tweets DID feed the perception that many editors and contributors to the Bulwark hold the pro-life cause in contempt, or may be abandoning it as a way to justify voting for a Democratic candidate for president in 2020. (3/+)
@sarahmquinlan @JVLast I think many pro-lifers can tolerate dissent, but NOT mocking of their position or questioning their sincerity. So I appreciate @JVLast for clarifying that this is NOT the purpose of Jong-Fast's assignment. (4/+)
@sarahmquinlan @JVLast But for the idea that the Bulwark bears no responsibility for Jong-Fast's personal tweets; would this also apply to Tweets Donald Trump sends from his personal account, as opposed to his @POTUS account? (5/+)
@sarahmquinlan @JVLast @POTUS Er, not that Bulwark is responsible for DJT Tweets, but point is those are technically Not "official" but that hardly makes them politically irrelevant. (6/+)
@sarahmquinlan @JVLast @POTUS Or what about Matt Gaetz's actions? He sent a tweet, widely interpreted as an attempt at witness tampering, from his personal, not House, account. It did not prevent Nancy Pelosi from issuing a (sub)tweet that was obviously a rebuke of his actions. (7/+)
@sarahmquinlan @JVLast @POTUS I still support The Bulwark, but I think what happened has created a PR problem that cannot be solved merely by a "this is what we tried to do, you guys misunderstood it" type of explanation. (8/+)
@sarahmquinlan @JVLast @POTUS I also think that while I agree that calling out Trump, his enablers, & associated grifters on the right is a noble cause; if the Bulwark focuses the majority of its efforts on this, it is not going to have much of a future as a conservative (not merely anti-Trump) outlet.
