Why is $CMTA a big deal for Canadians? At $1B+, it's probably the 2nd largest #cdnbiotech cash exit ever. 2ND LARGEST EVER. Let's dive into that for a bit: investor.clementiapharma.com/news-releases/…
Canada's largest biotech cash exit is vaccine maker ID Biomedical at $1.4B. I've got a story about this one but will save it for another day. Great exit (including timing) by CEO Tony Holler!
There are also a bunch of #cdnbiotech cash buyouts in the $500-$1B category including Aspreva ($900M), Cynapsus ($600M), Enobia ($500M; $1B with add-ons) and YM ($500M).
For reference to the revered #cdnbiotech's of all time: QLT's market cap hit $5-6B in 2000 but dwindled slowly back down to obscurity; Biochem Pharma was an all-stock deal at $4B.
For me, $CMTA exit is a turning point. I really believe we are about to usher in a new era of biotech value creation in Canada and one day, when we're looking back, this transaction will be seen as the kickoff for that trend.
As @cdesjardins3 mentions in the @globeandmail article, the buyout is 'bittersweet' and I think it feels like that for all of us in the #cdnbiotech community. We understand how positive the exit is but this was a great company- it could have gone all the way. 
Congrats to the Canadian investors who supported this company, @amplitudeVC and @FondsFTQ. They didn't write as big a cheque as @OrbiMed but they played an important role.
