Tánaiste Simon Coveney says Ireland is preparing for "a worst case scenario" Brexit 👀
Coveny says Brexit Bill going through Dáil is on time so far
Coveney says Ireland prepared to sign a border memorandum of understanding with Britain on the Common Travel Area
Coveney says in terms of preparations the following staff numbers have been hired:

♦️400 extra Revenue inspectors
♦️200 extra Department of Agriculture inspectors to carry out animal health checks
♦️59 Department of Health inspectors to carry out other health checks
Coveney says "a very serious and detailed conversation between both governments and the EU" will be needed in the event of Britain crashing out to avoid infrastructure along the border.
Coveney on the ongoing EU-UK backstop talks: "We're in the space of trying to provide clarity that temporary means temporary."
"It's too early to be optimistic... my understanding is the negotiations have been difficult."
Coveney says it would be "surprising" if the British parliament voted for a no deal Brexit

Irish government spokesman says it serves no purpose to speculate about what happens with the border in the event of a no deal Brexit and says it's up to UK to come up with alternatives to avoid hard border if withdrawal agreement rejected.
"We're not putting up border infrastructure," spokesman adds.
"There are no preparations for a hard border."

Everything thus far proposed by Labour is either unworkable or completely irrelevant. On some level they know this. As an opposition (either to the government or #Brexit), they are simply going through the motions. They're out of their depth and way out of their league.
It's easy to accuse the ERG of not having a clue - but they actually do know what they want whereas Labour have no idea how to interrogate the Brexit issue, have no idea what they want or how to get it, and expect the EU will grant their incoherent wishes.
The push for a customs union in which we have a vote is probably the most issue illiterate proposal to date from any side. A lot of BRexiter unicornery falls over on fine detail, but Labour's proposal is conceptually retarded.

You don’t have any trade agreements and negotiating them will take time. So far, you’ve not even been able to conclude the lesser continuity agreements with all the existing partners. Not even half… /2
2) EQUIVALENT to a tariff. It won’t be a ‘border wall’ wall just friction resulting from having a normal border in place. Also non-tariff and behind-the-border barriers to trade are much more difficult to regulate, spot and remove. Kind of why there is so much fuss over them /3

While there is widespread disagreement about whether the EU will blink or not over #Brexit (spoiler alert: the bloc is more flexible than it wants to indicate right now) it’s arguably more useful to think what kind of eventual ‘concessions’ we might be talking about from the EU 1
It’s true the EU has a history of blinking in the last moment BUT only in its own interest. In the Greek debt crisis the bloc chose to keep Greece in the eurozone in order (leaders thought) to better protect the whole currency 2
When I say EU will be more flexible than seems right now, I don’t mean ditching the backstop. EU leaders want to protect the single market. They earn more from it than from trade with UK alone. Protecting border on island of Ireland = protecting SM as well as NI peace process 3
