There’s something fundamentally wrong with the Nigerian media. It has become the devil’s mouthpiece & tool for public misinformation & incitement. If an investigation agency arrests Mr X for suspected money laundering, responsible journalism should report it as : EFCC arrests
Mr X for suspected money laundering. Unfortunately, should Mr X be spouse to any of the opposition leaders, our hypocritical media would, in a bid to fuel political crisis divert public attention away from the crime of Mr X, & continue to push his tie to politician Y.
This is the same way that the media keeps dividing the north & south along ethnic & religious lines. So, when the president suspended Onnoghen for alleged breach of asset declaration & corruption, the issue immediately became a north vs south tussle, courtesy of the media
And even when it was established that Justice Tanko was the most senior justice of the Supreme Court and, constitutionally is the natural successor to Onnoghen, the media conspiracy did not just go away. The most recent absurdity is the fake news about Emefiele’s removal.
As usual, the media is awashed with the gibberish that he’s to be replaced by a northerner. Is it not within the prerogative of the president to appoint whoever he finds competent to head the CBN? Wasn’t Sanusi Lamido Sanusi removed by GEJ before completion of his tenure?
