There’s the tricky math:

Ppl in prison for non-violence: 36% non-Hispanic White, so 64% POC.

Ppl in prison for violence: 27% non-Hispanic White, 73% POC.

The disparity is driven by VIOLENCE. Where Harris (like many progressives) wishes to remain tough.
Insisting that we remain tough against violence could be very good politics, certainly in the general election, but perhaps even in the Dem primary.

Check out liberal resistance to reform for violence in this 2016 @voxdotcom poll.
Violence drives our prison population, and thus drives the disparities in those populations.

Prison is also a really ineffective way to respond to violence, certainly at the scale that we use it.

But that’s the convo we have to have: how do we change our response to violence?
