Hmm, if only some sporting body, say the IOC, released details of a systematic databasing of height/weight/etc of athletes at one of their competitions, say Rio 2016. 1/
Oh. Wait. There’s a list of 11538 athletes here. 2/

Handily broken down into various datasets here. 3/

At 6ft/182cm, McKinnon is not just well above average for females, but across the entire pool. 4/
McKinnon is above average for all athletes in all but four sports - handball, rowing, volleyball, basketball. 5/
Compared with just females, McKinnon is only shorter than average in basketball and volleyball, and by just 1cm. 6/
The reason for pursuing this re: McKinnon’s height is because RM routinely ignores population means (averages) and focuses on using outliers within that population to undermine the importance of the mean. More on that later. 7/
But given the data above (all credit to Robert Wood at Topend Sports for the breakdown), in what sense can we understand the statement below to be true? End/
Apologies, this tweet may be a little hasty in language. RM is well above average for the female pool and bang on average for the male pool. Of course, this would make RM taller than the combined pools. My wording makes it sound like RM is taller than the male average. RM is not.
