I have massive respect for @ChrisGPackham, but I think he's taking a major wrong turn here, in claiming that #ClimateBreakdown is survivable, but human population growth is not. Population growth is peaking, climate breakdown isn't. radiotimes.com/news/tv/2019-0…
There's some pretty impressive evidence stacking up now that population will peak sooner and lower than most people had imagined. But all the indications are that without massive and drastic action, we will soon reach irreversible climate tipping points: theguardian.com/world/2019/jan…
Why? Because consumption is growing much faster than population, and this consumption is overwhelmingly concentrated among the rich irishtimes.com/news/environme…

#Oxford's city centre is dying at astonishing speed. So many boarded-up shops, you could mistake this very rich city for one of the most depressed places in Britain. Thread/
Its famous Covered Market, founded in 1774, once fully occupied by small independent businesses, is in serious trouble. 5 of its 9 fresh food sellers have closed in the past 2 years.
Why is this happening? Because, with massive council support, the focus of the city has been shifted half a mile westwards with the massive enlargement of the Westgate Centre, a shopping mall known to some residents as the Death Star.

Youth climate strikers: This is an existential crisis.
About 10,000 older people: Hypocrites! We won't listen to anyone who isn't living in a barrel, with no clothes or possessions, and living on nothing but murky water.
I'm told there's already a name for this: the Tu Quoque Fallacy. Thanks to those who pointed that out.
And if you do live in a barrel, with no clothes or possessions, subsisting only on murky water, we'll dismiss you as a weirdo, and won't listen to you either.

Hi. I'm a mother of two, wife of a USMC combat vet, owner of multiple AR-15s and also a journalist that covers governmental overreach.

I have reported from Ferguson and Malheur both, and in each instance I think the government overreached.

You're wrong and here's why:
Firstly, let's take the argument that you have a right to defend yourself against harm from criminals. I'll take definitional liberties same as you did, for the same reasons: these terms are so vague.

Let's assume though that you're talking home invasion, mugging, massacre.
Firstly, there is a single instance in which an AR would potentially be preferable: a massacre situation in which you knew the walls around you were thick enough to stop a bullet and you had a constantly clear shot.

Then you could pop the dude.

In any other case it's silly.

1) Some takeaways from this thread.
2) The product mined by the Uranium One mines in the US is not weapon grade uranium ready to be put in nukes. Takes more steps at different types of facilities to get there. Those facilities in the US aren't owned by U1 or Rosatom.
3) We're in no danger of running out of uranium plenty of other companies doing the same thing in the US. Plenty of reserves available in the US for our need. We also have our friend to the north Canada with more than enough to fulfill our needs.
