I’m immediately left wondering if Custom Audiences could be used to circumvent these new ad targeting restrictions that seek to limit discrimination? What if shady advertisers make their own discriminatory lists and upload them to match to Facebook users for direct targeting?
I recall getting into it with Benedict Evans about this. I argued that Facebook should limit targeting options to prevent discrimination. That’s when I got blocked. Almost everyone has a story of getting blocked by Evans. LOL.

The “discovery” in this case was significant. Even if I (we all) lose, the consolation prize (besides an eye-watering legal costs bill) is knowing that I now have over 2000 pages of legal documents chronicling the twilight of Cambridge Analytica.
Over the past year, I wrote a few pieces explaining why I’m even doing this crazy risky thing in the public interest. I appreciated today that if I hadn’t gone for it, no one else would have had the standing to scrutinize and stop this weird wind-down. bostonreview.net/law-justice-da…

Update from today’s hearing in UK challenging the liquidation of Cambridge Analytica: Judgement reserved. Stay tuned.
It gets lost in technicalities but this pending decision is pivotal.

If I lose, it means SCL/CA vanishes and crucial questions may never be answered. And I’m on the hook personally for costs.

If I win, then the truth about our data lives on to see the light of day.

We wait.
A remarkable moment in today’s court hearing was when defendants could not discuss details about SCL Insights Ltd with court, the only remaining company that absorbed SCL Group’s assets. They couldn’t discuss SCL Insights because of active investigations, including in the USA.

Big news: following our complaint and reporting by @theintercept, the FEC has levied a record-breaking $940K in fines against a Chinese-owned corporation that illegally gave $1.3 million to Jeb Bush's super PAC.

This is the first time the FEC has fined a foreign corporation for donating to a super PAC.

Such fines are rare. But illegal foreign funds in elections likely are not. They are just rarely identified. campaignlegal.org/press-releases…
So American Pacific International Capital (“APIC”) is a corporation formed in California but wholly owned by two Chinese citizens. APIC’s five-member board included two U.S. citizens, including Jeb Bush’s brother Neil.

In 2015, APIC gave $1.3 million to Bush’s super PAC.

Since my last thread, the government came back to the negotiating table in the PJCIS and agreed to a series of amendments to the bill designed to prevent the issuance of Technical Capability Notices that could undermine strong encryption.
These amendments have been intensely negotiated with the government in a process that has been far from ideal, which is why Labor also secured agreement to continue scrutiny of the Bill through the PJCIS into 2019 and via the Independent National Security Legislation Monitor.

Compounded drugs serve an important medical need for patients who can’t use an FDA-approved medication. In today’s #FDA #SUNDAYTWEETORIAL, I’m going to talk about what FDA is doing to preserve access to appropriately compounded drugs while protecting patients from serious risks.
In drug compounding, ingredients are combined, mixed or altered to create a sterile or non-sterile medication tailored to a patient - such as those with an allergy who need a drug without a certain dye or a child who can’t swallow a tablet and needs medicine in a liquid form.
But compounded drugs, which aren’t FDA-approved, may pose serious risks if not produced properly, potentially resulting in contamination or medications that do not possess the strength, quality or purity they are supposed to have bit.ly/2G7IpjB
