In 2016, my daughter Alice noticed girls weren't raising their hands in class with the same confidence that boys were. She talked about it with her mom/my wife, her @girlscouts troop, the head of local Girl Scouts @GSCNC and came up with an idea for a RAISE YOUR HAND patch.

3/ An editor at the NYT saw the tweet and asked if Alice would want to work with her on an op-ed. She was and they did.

4/ An editor at @penguinkids saw the op-ed and asked if Alice would like to work with their editors and write a children's book about the patch and the RAISE YOUR HAND mission! She was and they did. Pub date for @RaiseYourHand5 is March 19.

5/ Tonight the local @girlscouts @GSCNC will give an award to Alice -- and she will give them a check for ALL the proceeds from the book. For Alice this is all about building confidence for girls.
6/ Alice will also be giving to @GirlScouts @GSCNC a check from the amazing @Oprah. Ms. Winfrey had heard about the patch and the book and the mission, and she wrote Alice a letter and a check to @GirlScouts.
7/ There are so many amazing women and girls around the globe getting recognition on this #InternationalWomensDay2019 -- and Alice, age 11, is who I will be applauding tonight.
