BTW if you read the original Molnár you'll note that the Jigger character is queer for Liliom. That sort of thing would sure liven up a Carousel production.
Molnár also makes it even clearer than R&H that Liliom is violent—as Julie impassively observes at length—before she goes off with him, and maybe I won't finish that thought.
