I'm entirely convinced that this Nick Monroe (@NickMon1112) kid is going to get someone injured or killed one day with his endless hit jobs. I just hope it isn't me.
Criticism is okay. This is deranged, it's endless, and it's going to get someone killed.
Ordinarily, I might not worry, but he's being amplified by several significant accounts.

Okay, here's the situation. There may be a few tweets in this, so bear with me.

Obviously my wife and I have both given statements to the police. The investigation continues.

However, we need to be real about a few things here... /1
'Tommy' doing what he did constitutes harassment. If he was arrested, there would then be 5-10 days in court, and if found guilty, the penalty is a fine.

About the cost of a dinner in a decent restaurant.

I could possibly also get some sort of order keeping him away. /2
That's supposing he *is* arrested.

Bedfordshire Police need to make a judgement call.

Ideally, the law should be blind, but reality is, his arrest would have knock on effects.

They need to evaluate possible consequences against the likelihood of a successful conviction. /3

I've spent the last few months documenting how 'Tommy Robinson’ uses doorstepping to intimidate his critics, and how social media giants have enabled it.

So what does he do? Turns up at my house tonight. 1/
'Tommy’ has done this, as yesterday, a letter was delivered to his home, informing him that he's being sued for defamation on behalf of Jamal, the Syrian refugee bullied in a viral video last year.

Since I'm close, I'm a critic and I knew about it, he decided to target me. /2
My involvement in the weekend's events was this: I helped crowdfund the defamation action and I alerted people that it was happening on social media - I freely admit that.

On Sunday, however, I was at home in Luton. /3

I know I make this thread every six months but here we go again: If you're an artist on the internet and you want to be hired for work you have got to be accessible to Art Directors and Talent Coordinators in a professional capacity (1)
In 2019, this means you need to have some kind of social media profile that you can safely and reliably link your Portfolio Website and Work Email- esp if you live outside of hub cities like LA (LA for animation work specifically but this applies to most creative industry) (2)
Today, every single job I have ever received has been thru traffic generated from either Tumblr (back in the day) or Twitter. That includes nearly every single comic and graphic novel gig and my current Animation job. This is extremely typical for this industry right now (3)

So I loved all of my students in Portland but I had one kid who was honestly just special to me. I just found out that he died. This is just so painful because he had so much potential. Let me tell you about Mitchell
On my first day of work I was just observing the classroom and I hear this kid yell out: “is anyone in this classroom even fucking good at math, I feel like LeBron James playing against kindergarteners.” And I almost fell out laughing.
I turned to my supervisor and said: “is he actually good at math?” And she tells me he’s probably the best at math in the entire class. It was obvious he had some addiction problems but that he very was smart.

I got my MA from a tiny, not great program at a tiny not great university so take what I say with a grain of salt because I was never a real academic but good god the amount of students in my cohort who got MAD when any form of social history was inserted into their fave topics
There were so many white dudes in that program who LOVED World War II or the Civil War (because of course--WWII and the Civil War are like the lights that draw all the racist conservative dude-moths) but if you tried to suggest that a feminist reading might be useful they'd FLIP

1) I'm not sure how to make people remember or care that 15 years ago the United States invaded Iraq, setting off a war that continues to this day, with several hundred thousand Iraqis dead, millions turned into refugees. I covered the invasion for the New York Times Magazine.
2) Though I'm a writer, I shot photos during the invasion as I drove a rented Hyundai SUV from Kuwait into Iraq via Safwan, then up the spine of the country to Nasiriya, Diwaniya, Hilla, Kut and finally Baghdad. Here's the Hyundai on March 19, 2003. It's clean--that will change
3) The photographer I worked with, Laurent vander Stockt, drove his own SUV. After several failed attempts to get into Iraq, one time turned back at gunpoint by U.S. soldiers, we finally got through, via what we guessed was a minefield (I followed Lauren tracks). Here's Laurent.
