Tonight's session was a more muted one for Salazar and his compatriots.
After finding out about the hideout, our group proceeded to follow the directions given to them by the goblin. Zurk took point via flying a little ahead while Lho-Vahn was front. Two traps were found:
The first was a snare trap, easily spotted by Lho, which he proceeded to trigger by pulling down onto it, without incident. Down the road it's Zurk that spots a pitfall trap before Lho-Vahn could step on it. The group walks around and reaches the goblin hideout. Caves.
Upon entering the caves, Lho-Vahn, on his right, came across wolves chained to poles stuck into the ground, on the first room to the right. Lho-Vahn rolled a dirty 20 and ordered them to calm down. Naz went around and found some teeth marks in fruit thrown into the rubbish pile.
We continued on, with Zurk once more flying above. A rush of water comes down the tunnel from the top, and the group manages to avoid it. Much long-windedness from Naz caused the group to not avoid the second, larger flood of water caught 3 of the 4. Zurk was above it.
Vahn, Sal and Naz get thrown to the entrance of the cave and outside. Naz wasn't breathing. Sal smacks him with his healing hand for 3 points of Lay of Hands healing. He would not speak of the act, but the healing would be noted. The group tries to return to the entrance.
A pair of arrows wiz by Lho's head, causing him to go to the woods to the west to investigate who fired them. Sal follows while Naz prepared mage armor & was last to come in. Goblins! as the three of us entered, and Lho having been shot once, they proceeded to hide! Nat 1 + high.
The goblin on the right hid behind a leaf. Nat 1. After some misses, Lho and Sal killed the one that failed hidden goblin and turned onto the one that was hiding behind a tree. At this point, Naz joined the group and Sal goes into the treeline to fight 2handed. Miss. Sigh.
Eventually, the trio killed the last goblin. Badly hurt, the group took a short rest. Sal had low hit dice roll [1HD at L1] and the group returns to the cave. They ignore the wolves, now barking at them once more, and proceeds to quickly ascend the tunnel upward. More goblins!
Naz was able to go first. Sal and Lho followed, and while a few shortbow shots connected, for low damage, Naz proceeded to freeze two goblins with ray of frost while Salazar ran through the second goblin with his longsword. We found Zurk tied up and hurt! Sal frees him.
Zurk tells us that a goblin nailed him in the wing with an arrow and then proceeds to go back to grab the goblin with his talons, bringing it back to fly up high and drop the goblin onto a sharp rock. Badly hurt but not dead yet. Sal dealt the finishing blow.
When Zurk was freed from his rope bonds, he told us that the bugbear was nearby. With the group badly hurt, we decided against facing it. Naz writes a note, telling us that goblins might have stuff stashed nearby. We took the suggestion and crossed the bridge, Zurk on point.
We follow a short tunnel and Zurk quietly warns us to stop. We rolled our stealth checks and Naz rolled a dirty 23. We were stealthy enough to enter the next room: a bunk room with goblins sleeping, one cooking meat and a warrior.. with a prisoner being held above!
As we snuck into positions and Zurk and Sal were able to assassinate two of the 5 goblins sleeping. Lho swung his flail and hit the third's pillow while Naz caused snow to flow onto the fourth's face. Combat starts! The warrior fired upon Sal, taking him down to 1 hp.
Sal, Naz, Zurk and Lho manage to kill the other 3 goblins before the warrior fired again. Zurk goes up after killing his, flying above the higher platform, to get the warrior's attention. Rewarded with an arrow to the knee. Yes, I know, the joke's overdone.
Naz gets up the stairway leading up to the ledge and fires off three magic missiles, one shotting the warrior and concluding battle. The group gets up the ledge and find the missing buddy to the dwarf they were originally working for and were searching for. Zurk picked locks.
Sal offers his waterskin and, after pumping a single healing point into himself, pumps the final lay of hands point into the NPC. Between the water and the healing magic stopping the bleeds, the man started talking about the lost mine. How it would restore prosperity to the area.
At that point, the party was mostly on it's last legs. The NPC suggested that we have this nice meat cooking and should rest, before collapsing onto the floor. Everyone was tired and it was late enough, so the group decides to long rest. Sal took 1st watch, then Naz and then Lho.
And that concludes our session. It was short due to real life, tiredness and whatnots. This module makes Claws of Madness feel player-friendly in comparison. The party could've died several times. Thankfully, our DM was generous but fair. We came out on top.
